Job Description

The Studio Technology Legal group is looking for a transactional attorney to assist with supporting the highly innovative Studio Technology team. The attorney will be responsible for negotiating and drafting technology-related agreements in various technology areas, such as production and post-production, marketing technology, business and data platforms, content security, research and innovation, artificial intelligence and immersive experiences. The attorney will advise business partners on applicable company policies and legal requirements.

This position requires exceptional organizational skills; a proactive mindset; acute attention to details and deadlines; meticulous drafting skills; strong acumen for legal issue spotting; and constant, effective communication (both oral and written) with both internal business partners and third parties.

DUTIES AND PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Drafting and negotiating agreements and other legal documentation related to technology and operations, including, but not limited to, software licenses, software as a service agreements, professional services agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and software/system evaluation agreements.
  • Coordinating with subject matter legal experts throughout the Disney enterprise ( e.g. , privacy, open source, music, risk management and finance).
  • Ensuring our business partners comply with applicable company policies.
  • Advising our business partners on legal requirements.
  • Working effectively with paralegal staff.

SKILLSET :

  • Understanding of the technology and entertainment businesses. Demonstrated capacity to keep current on emerging business trends and legal developments in technology, entertainment and intellectual property law.
  • Superior drafting, negotiation, communication and organizational skills. Ability to spot legal issues and come up with well thought out ways to resolve the issues. Comfortable negotiating orally and in writing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well with different roles and levels in a team environment. Ability to build interdepartmental relationships at all levels. Comfortable communicating with executives.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and present arguments to higher-level attorneys and business partners to help shape strategic decisions made by those individuals.
  • Ability to evaluate and reconcile issues from the business-unit and enterprise-level perspective.
  • Exceptional organizational, prioritization and time management skills with the ability to work under tight deadlines and execute efficiently against multiple, high-priority and high-volume projects. Demonstrates a clear ability to manage deals in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work in an environment with a high degree of confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • JD degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to California State Bar Association (or willingness and qualification to be Registered In-House Counsel).
  • At least 7 years of significant legal experience as an attorney with at least 2 of those years working primarily on technology agreements.

The hiring range for this position in the Greater Los Angeles area is $171,900 to $222,400 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
