The Senior Category Buyer is a critical individual contributor role within Mercury’s direct material procurement organization. Reporting to the Category Manager, this position supports Mercury’s global manufacturing operations and product development programs by driving continuous improvements in supplier performance, cost competitiveness, quality, delivery, and innovation. This role will work closely with internal engine components such as camshafts, engine bearings, timing systems, pistons, flywheels, and thermostats. All critical parts of the internal combustion engine. Experience with engine components and manufacturing processes is highly valued. Key Responsibilities include executing procurement activities for product development programs as part of a cross-functional team, developing and executing component sourcing and development plans, leading the request for quotation/proposal process, visiting supplier manufacturing facilities to conduct audits, negotiating best total cost, issuing purchase orders, managing timelines and budgets, facilitating meetings, supporting APQP and PPAP actions, supporting root cause and corrective action efforts, driving continuous improvement in supplier performance, negotiating with suppliers, managing purchase order pricing, identifying cost reduction projects, supporting supplier delivery or quality problem resolution, supporting change processes, acting as liaison between suppliers and engineers, and contributing to continuous improvement activities. The role requires proven project management experience, flexibility, adaptability, and strong organizational skills. Required qualifications include a BS/BA in Engineering (preferred) or related field, 5+ years of experience in sourcing/procurement/supplier management, project management and leadership skills, excellent negotiation and cost management skills, strong data analysis and software skills, proficiency with engineering prints and APQP/PPAP processes, excellent time management, positive attitude, strong communication skills, and willingness to travel up to 20%. Preferred qualifications include expertise in raw materials and manufacturing processes for engine components, OEM experience, C.P.M. and/or CPIM certifications, and Lean/Six Sigma certification. The position offers a salary range of $84,500 to $136,100 annually plus discretionary bonus and comprehensive benefits.
