Job Summary and Qualifications

TheLactationConsultantisresponsible forunderstanding andassisting with the lactation process.Provides expert care in lactation managementin accordance withtheInternational Lactation Consultant AssociationandStandards of Practice forInternational Board of Lactation Consultant Examinersor The Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice code of ethics, respective of current certification.Serves as an expert consultant to maternal- child staff, physicians and otherhealthcare professionalsin the management of patients with complex breastfeeding problems. Participates in program managementto support and encourage successful breastfeeding through the first year of life. Participates in program development activitiesto facilitate successful exclusive breastfeeding for inpatient mother/infant dad. 

What you will do in this role:

• Provide care in an evidenced-based environment. 

• Practice autonomously, consistent with practice standards andresearch basedpolicy/procedures. 

• Exercise independent judgment within the context of interdisciplinary patient care. 

• Provide care/treatment/services within the theoretical framework of modeling and role-modeling. 

• Delegate tasks appropriate to meet the needs of the individual patient. 

• Plan, implement, revise and delegate nursing care with patient safety as the primary goal.

• Perform necessary technical skills as delineated through education, expertise, and unit requirements. 

• Incorporate teaching into all aspects of nursing practice. 

• Document pertinent data in a concise manner. 

• Participate in development and evaluation of professional practicebyparticipatingonunit and/orhospital committees,special projectsand attendance at staff meetings andtown halls.

• Activelyparticipatein unit and/or hospital performance improvement activities. 

• Attendance and being on time, ready to work your scheduled hours is an essential job function. 

What qualifications you will need:

• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• Neonate Resuscitate must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
• Graduate of a School of Nursing, BSN required /MSN preferred
• CLC required; (IBCLC) International Board Certified Lactation Consultant must be obtained within 6 months
• Unencumbered Texas RN license
