Job Description

About Shermco:

Since 1974, Shermco has become North America’s largest and fastest growing NETA-accredited electrical testing organization. Our focus is to make sure electrical power systems are functioning properly and safely. Additionally, our Professional Engineering Group, Rotating Machinery Division, Renewable Energy Services, and Field Repair and local Repair Service Centers, places Shermco in a position to handle all things electrical, all done with an emphasis on safety and client service. We are growing rapidly and are well known and respected in our industry and we have an excellent culture. It's an exciting time to join us.

Position Description:

Shermco Industries is seeking a full-time entry-level or experienced Field Electrical Engineer to join our team for Brownfield projects at customer sites. This hands-on role is ideal for individuals who enjoy problem-solving on-site rather than sitting behind a desk and who enjoy extensive traveling. This position requires over 50% travel, primarily within MS, AL and GA but maybe FL and TN. The Field Engineer will perform testing, troubleshooting, and design work on electrical power delivery systems (switchgear, relays, motor controls, low voltage, medium voltage). You will be working at our customer sites and traveling within MS, GA, and AL. Ideally, we are seeking someone in Birmingham, AL or Atlanta, GA or Meridian, MS. Most of our clients are within 250 miles of these cities. A company vehicle, gas, credit card and per diem allowance are provided. Our customers are mostly in the Pulp & Paper, Chemical and Steel industries but not solely. In this role, you must possess a strong focus on customer satisfaction, safety, and technical excellence.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform acceptance testing and commissioning on a broad range of electrical power delivery equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose failures in electrical systems and recommend solutions.
  • Design and draft control and protection system upgrades.
  • Create and update electrical drawings for new systems and retrofit projects.
  • Manage workload effectively across multiple projects.
  • Prepare detailed and accurate customer reports.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with experience in power systems. We will consider a recent graduate with power systems knowledge
  • Ability and interest in traveling 50% of the time, driving to client sites to work onsite the whole week (company vehicle, gas, credit card, per diem provided)
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Must be able to pass a drug test, background check and DMV check
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer-sponsorship needed
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
  • Capable of managing several projects simultaneously
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Project management experience is a plus
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar design tools
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
